The Andes of South America

I’ve been skiing in South America as much as possible since 2015 — the Andes still surprise me every time. There’s something about the combination of rugged coastlines, high craggy peaks, and the fact that you’re skiing in summer while everyone back home is at the beach that makes it feel like you’ve found a secret, even when you’ve been there a dozen times before. Chile and Argentina deliver as much adventure as you can handle, and the mountain towns have a relaxed, welcoming energy that’s hard not to love.

Patagonia and the Tierra del Fuego are a different thing entirely, in the best possible way. The further south you go, the more the mountains demand your full attention. Massive icefields, fjords, weather that changes fast, terrain that rewards patience. I’ve skied above the Beagle Channel on bluebird afternoons that felt almost too good to be real, and I’ve been pinned down in a tent waiting for Patagonian wind to ease off for days. Honestly, both are part of what makes it so memorable, and one of my favorite places to be.
